Despite the challenges of the pandemic the sailing committee were pleased that the sailing programme put together as we went through the season survived to a great extent. This in no little way was due to the massive amount of assistance we received from a small band of volunteers, thank you.
Moving on to 2021 nobody can be sure of what the sailing programme will finally look like, but we do have an outline which we hope to publish soon. What we have identified is the need to increase the number of active volunteers and we feel the time is now right to address this issue.
Due to the pandemic and the mitigation of risk there have been numerous changes in the way the club operates as far as managing the sailing and to avoid gatherings. From crew sizes, through Track and Trace, to the abolition of the Race office a lot is new.
To run any event/yacht race both the West Mersea Yacht club and the Dabchicks sailing club need a pool of people able and willing to volunteer to help. Whether it is the Sunday club racing (where we need 2 to 4 volunteers) or Mersea week (where we need many more) we need several roles filled on a regular basis. As part of the development of the new sailing official noticeboard, and to help us fulfil the 2021 programme we are introducing an online volunteer database within this noticeboard. The aim being to help us identify who is willing to help, what experience they have and to allow you to select your roles and duty times. The form Onboard below is the start of this process.
By completing the form, and returning it, you will be putting your name and details on to our volunteer list and giving us some idea of how you are prepared to help. From this we would contact you directly to drill down on what you would have fun doing.
Additionally, we are looking to see if you would like to receive some training for some new roles you may wish to undertake. We would greatly appreciate your help.
