Dinghy Forum Summary

Published 09:38 on 9 Feb 2026

Thank you to everyone that attended the Dinghy Forum, fed back and supplied brilliant ideas for the next years sailing, a short summary below:

  • Sailing Instructions - START LINE MUDDLE - we have confirmed it is already in the Sailing instructions but we will make it clearer that the club race start is only between the inner (club side) and outer (pontoon side) triangle and not on the other side of the pontoon at any time.
  • 2026 calendar now available here (subject to a few changes)
  • Tess has very kindly volunteered to repaint the race start triangles and I will let everyone know when this is happening so we can get a few more volunteers to assist.
  • For main fleet racing a minimum of 3 boats will need to be signed on to enable a race to take place.
  • For slow fleet this will be a minimum of 2 boats.
  • For racing, Nav Marks are only to be used as an exception when other marks are not available i.e. when someone has kindly taken them all out leaving the race officers scratching their heads trying to work out what we are going to race around on Boxing day.
  • The Club has voted to retain the Club handicaps , thanks to those that preferred us to revert to standard handicaps, please be assured your thoughts were considered before the vote, the new handicaps are now available on the www.merseasailing.com noticeboard.
  • A request to add in Bank Holiday Monday racing was made which we have done
  • A coxswain course will be provided free of charge in March/April Date to be confirmed.
  • Required - Promotion and support to increase the slow fleet racing.
Kind Regards,
Lizzy Kingsford
